ORDINARUM MISSAE

ORDINARUM MISSAE

as used by the Mission of St Eulalia
Bronx, NY
Ordinary includes both the Sarum
and the Mozarabic uses of the
Western Rite of the Orthodox Church

Includes both the Third and Sixth Hours
of the Blessed Virgin Mary
All Psalms are According to the Douay-Rheims Challoner Revision. Text of Mozarabic Service in English that of Fr Aidan Keller, St John Cassian Press. Text of Sarum Public Domain. Uses in St Eulalia Parish are bilingual and therefore vary slightly from what is listed here.

THIRD HOUR
of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Our Father, who art in the heavens, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our Daily Bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those, who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Amen.

Rejoice, Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou Among Women, and Blessed is the fruit of Thy womb. Amen.

V: Incline unto my aid O God. R: O Lord make haste to help me.
Glory Be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the Beginning, Both Now and Ever and Unto the Ages of Ages. Amen.

Veni, Creator Spiritus.

COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
Have mind, Thou Maker of our Health, that at one time thou once did take
The likeness of our Body, Born of the unwedded virgin.
O Mary, Full of Grace, O Mother of Mercy,
Defend us from the enemy, take us up at the hour of death,
Glory be to Thee O Lord, for from a virgin thou wert born,
with Father and Holy Spirit, unto the ages. Amen.

Psalm 119
In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me. O Lord, deliver my soul from wicked lips, and a deceitful tongue. What shall be given to thee, or what shall be added to thee, to a deceitful tongue. The sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals that lay waste. Woe is me, that my sojourning is prolonged! I have dwelt with the inhabitants of cedar: My soul hath been long a sojourner. With them that hate peace I was peaceable: when I spoke to them they fought against me without cause.
Glory Be.... As it was.....
Psalm 120
I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me. My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. May he not suffer thy foot to be moved: neither let him slumber that keepeth thee. Behold he shall neither slumber nor sleep, that keepeth Israel. The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is thy protection upon thy right hand. The sun shall not burn thee by day: nor the moon by night. The Lord keepeth thee from all evil: may the Lord keep thy soul. May the Lord keep thy going in and thy going out; from henceforth now and for evermore.
Glory Be.... As it was....

Psalm 121
I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: We shall go into the house of the Lord. Our feet were standing in thy courts, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem, which is built as a city, which is compact together. For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord: the testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord. Because their seats have sat in judgment, seats upon the house of David. Pray ye for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem: and abundance for them that love thee. Let peace be in thy strength: and abundance in thy towers. For the sake of my brethren, and of my neighbours, I spoke peace of thee. Because of the house of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for thee.
Glory Be.... As it was...

Antiphon: When Thou wast born wonderfully of a virgin, then was fulfilled Holy Writ. Thou came down as rain into a fleece, for to make safe mankind; Thee we praise, o Our God.
Chapter (Ecclesiasticus 24):
And so in Sion was I established, and in the sanctified city likewise I rested: and my power was in Jerusalem. R: Thanks be to God.
V: Holy Theotokos, Ever Virgin Mary!
R: Holy Theotokos, Ever Virgin Mary!
V: Pray for us to our Lord God!
R. Ever Virgin Mary!
V: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit!
R: Holy Theotokos, Ever Virgin Mary!
V: After childbirth, O Virgin, thou remained without blemish.
R: Mother of God, pray for us!
V: O Lord, Hear my Prayer.
R: And Let my Cry Come Unto Thee.

Let Us Pray. Prayer: O God which by the fruitful virginity of the blessed virgin Mary, hath given unto mankind the rewards of eternal salvation: Grant we beseech thee, that we may perceive her to make intercession for us, by whom we have deserved to receive the author of life our Lord Jesus Christ thy son. Who liveth and reigneth, God, with thee, in the unity of the holy Ghost, unto ages of ages.
R: Amen.

V/. Let us bless the Lord.
R/. Thanks be to God.

And then the Mass

Here is sung the Hymn, if need be – as with “Come Holy Ghost” used in Sarum.

COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
O comforter, to Thee we cry, O heavenly gift of God Most High,
O fount of life and fire of love, and sweet anointing from above.
Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known; Thou, finger of God's hand we own;
Thou, promise of the Father, Thou Who dost the tongue with power imbue.
Kindle our sense from above, and make our hearts o'erflow with love;
with patience firm and virtue high the weakness of our flesh supply.
Far from us drive the foe we dread, and grant us Thy peace instead;
so shall we not, with Thee for guide, turn from the path of life aside.
Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow the Father and the Son to know;
and Thee, through endless times confessed, of both the eternal Spirit blest.
Now to the Father and the Son, Who rose from death, be glory given,
with Thou, O Holy Comforter, henceforth by all in earth and heaven. Amen.

INTRODUCTORY RITES

When the Celebrant is prepared to celebrate at Mass, going into the sacristy he washes his hands, saying:
Let us pray.
Collect: O Lord, almighty Father, grant to our faculties, we beseech Thee, that like as the defilements of the hands are outwardly washed away: so the filth of our minds may mercifully be cleansed by Thee: and the array of holy virtues may increase within us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Then he kneels before the vestments and says 4 Hail Marys. And from his inmost heart he shall commend himself to the glorious Virgin Mary: that he might offer it as an acceptable sacrifice to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And that he might have her for a Mediatress and Helper in this sacrifice. Then he arms himself with the sign of the Cross and says over each vestment:
In the name of the Father + and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
At the amice.
Collect: Place upon my head, O Lord, the helmet of salvation, for fighting and overcoming all the wiles of the Devil: and for overcoming the savagery of all mine enemies. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God: through all the ages of ages. Amen.
At the alb.
Collect: CLOTHE me, O Lord, in the vestment of salvation and the tunic of righteousness: and with the vesture of gladness encompass me for ever. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
At the cincture.
Collect: GIRD me, O Lord, with the cincture of faith, and the loins of my body with the virtue of chastity, and extinguish in them the feeling of concupiscence: that the unbroken chain of a chastity entire may abide in me continually. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
At the maniple.
Collect: MAY I be worthy, I beseech Thee, O Lord, to carry the sheaf of justice, and bear it with patience: bearing it with joy, may I receive a portion with Thy Saints. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
At the stole.
Collect: GIVE me once again, O Lord, I beseech Thee, the stole of immortality, which I lost in the prevarication of our first parent: and inasmuch as I presume to draw nigh to Thy holy Mystery with this adornment, unworthy though I be, grant that I may be worthy to rejoice with the same unto eternity. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God: through all the ages of ages. Amen.
At the chasuble.
Collect: THY yoke, O Lord, is sweet, and Thy burden light: grant that I may so avail to wear it, that I may attain Thy grace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
After he is vested, the Celebrant says this:
Responsory: FATHER, I have sinned against heaven and before Thee, and I am not now worthy to be called Thy son: | Make me as one of Thy hired servants.
Verse: How many hired servants in my Father's house abound with bread, and I here perish with hunger: I will arise, and will go to my Father, and say to Him: | Make me as one...
Kyrieleyson. Xristeleyson. Kyrieleyson.
Our Father...
V. From my hidden sins cleanse me, O Lord.
R. And from those of others spare Thy servant.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
Let us pray.
Collect: O GOD, Who makest worthy of the unworthy, righteous ones of sinners, and clean of the unclean: cleanse my heart and my body from all the filth and consideration of sin: and make me a worthy and striving minister to Thy holy altars: and grant that upon this altar to which I, unworthy, dare to approach, I may offer Thee acceptable sacrifices for my sins and offences and goings astray, daily and beyond number, and for the sins of all the living, and of the faithful departed, and of them that have commended themselves to my prayers, and may my vow be acceptable to Thee by Him Who offered Himself a sacrifice to Thee, O God the Father, for our sakes, Who is the worker of all works, and the only High Priest without the stains of sin: Jesus Christ Thy Son our Lord. Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God: through all the ages of ages. Amen.
And straightway, joined his hands before his breast, he shall humbly set forth, and go to the Altar, and begin to say:
Rejoice, Mary... In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. May the grace of the Holy Spirit be with us.
V. I shall go in unto the altar of God.
R. To God Who giveth gladness to my youth.
Ps. JUDGE me, O God...
He shall say the whole of Ps. 42, with Glory Be, then:
V. I shall go in unto the altar of God.
R. To God Who giveth gladness to my youth.
V. Vouchsafe, O Lord, to preserve us.
R. This day without sin.
V. O confess to the Lord, for He is good.
R. For His mercy endureth for ever.
V. Pray for us, holy Theotokos.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

If the Hispanic Rite is to Be Used
On principal Feasts only, the Celebrant sings:
By the glory of Thy name, O Christ, Son of the living God, and by the intercession of the holy Virgin Mary, and of blessed James, and of all thy holy ones, assist and have mercy upon Thine unworthy servants, and be Thou in our midst, O our God: Who livest and reignest unto the ages of ages.
R. Thanks be to God.

The Introit of the Mass

Then the Choir begins the Officium (Praelegendum), and he the confession:
I confess to almighty God, and the blessed Ever-Virgin Mary: and the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints: and to you, brethren, I reveal that I have gravely sinned, through pride, in the law of my God, thought, word, deed and omission, through my fault: through my fault: through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech the All-blessed Virgin Mary, and all holy men and women, and you, brethren, to pray for me.
Absolution to the people: May the merciful Lord grant us pardon, absolution, and remission of all our sins, with the amendment of our ways and life: through the grace of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen.
V. O God, Thou wilt turn and quicken us.
R. And Thy people shall be glad in Thee.
V. Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
R. And Thy salvation do Thou give unto us.
V. Thy priests shall be clothed with righteousness.
R. And Thy Saints shall rejoice.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.
Collect: Take away from us all our iniquities, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and the spirit of pride and haughtiness, which Thou dost resist: and fill us with the spirit of fear, and give us a heart that is broken and humbled, which Thou dost not despise: that we may be worthy to enter with pure minds into the Holy of Holies. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, God: through all the ages of ages. Amen.
And straightway he goes up to the Altar, and makes a Cross over the Altar, saying:
In the name of the Fa+ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
And he kisses the Altar, and kissing it says the Ant.:
Hail, precious Cross, who art consecrated by the Body of Christ, and adorned with His limbs as with pearls. Make safe this assembly present, gathered unceasingly in the praises of thee.
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee.
R. For by Thy holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.
Let us pray.
Collect: Hearken to us, O God of our salvation: and by the victory of the holy Cross defend us from all dangers. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect: By the power of the holy Cross, and by the intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary, and of blessed Peter, Prince of the Apostles, and of all the Saints, absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the chains of our transgressions: and whatsoever we might deserve for them graciously turn away: and grant us to come rejoicing unto the remembrance of all that Thou hast done for us, by which Thou hast vouchsafed to fashion us anew. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Another: OUR consciences...
Another Collect: O LORD, let there be with us...
Upon unfolding the corporals, the Celebrant says:
MAY these our Gifts be pleasing unto Thee, we beseech Thee, O Lord, in Thy sight, that we may be able to please Thee: lift up your gates, O ye princes, and be lifted up, ye everlasting gates, and the King of glory shall enter in. Who is this King of glory? the Lord strong and mighty in war: the Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.
Washing the chalice, he says:
VOUCHSAFE, O Lord, to cleanse this vessel, in which may I be worthy to receive Thy precious holy Body. Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit livest and reignest, God: through all the ages of ages. Amen.
When he places the host on the paten, he says:
MAY the blessing of God the Fa+ther almighty, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, descend upon this victim to be offered unto thee, God the Father. Amen.

When the Choir has finished singing the Officium, the Celebrant says:

V. EVER through all the ages of ages.
R. Amen.

Doxology (Gloria)

On most Feasts, and Sundays outside Advent and Lent, the Celebrant intones:
GLORY be.
And the Choir takes it up and sings it to the end:
To God in the highest. And on earth peace to men of good will. We praise Thee. We bless Thee. We worship Thee. We glorify Thee. We give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory. O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father almighty. O Lord the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. That takest away the sins of the world: have mercy upon us. That takest away the sins of the world: receive our prayer. That sittest at the right hand of the Father: have mercy upon us. For Thou only art holy. Thou only art the Lord. Thou only art most high, O Jesus Christ. With the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Again, the Celebrant says:
V. EVER through all the ages of ages.
R. Amen.

Let us pray. And then the:

COLLECT (changing with the week)
R. Amen.
In the midst of the Altar, the Celebrant says:
V. BY Thy mercy, O our God, Who art blessed: and livest, and rulest all things unto the ages of ages.
R. Amen.
V. The Lord be always with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

The Continuation of the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the N.
R. Thanks be to God.

[While the Epistle is read, the D. puts wine in the chalice, saying:]
MIX in this chalice, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that which flowed from Thy side: that it may be for the remission of our sins. Amen.

[Blessing of the water:]
GRANT, O Lord, to bless.

[A minister shall say:]
MAY it be blessed by Him Whose Spirit moved over the waters. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

[Placing water into the wine, he says:]
FROM the side of our Lord Jesus Christ blood and water are asserted to have come forth: these, therefore, we mingle together: that the merciful Lord may condescend to sanctify them both unto the healing of our souls. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the Sarum Rite, the ALLELUIA is sung here.

The GOSPEL
With D. as reader alone:
CLEANSE my heart and body and my lips, almighty and merciful God, Who didst cleans the lips of Isaias the Prophet with a burning coal. So also deign to cleanse me by Thy freely-flowing compassion: that I may be worthy to declare the Holy Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
GRANT, O Lord, to bless. THE Lord strengthen my understanding and my lips: that I mayest rightly speak His holy words to us.

R. And with thy spirit.

In the Sarum Rite the CREED is said here. Otherwise:

MOZARABIC
Meanwhile, the Celebrant offers the host and chalice:
Collect: LET this our oblation be acceptable to Thy majesty, almighty God, which we offer Thee for our sins and offences: and for the stability of the Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Through Christ our Lord.
[Setting the paten upon the corporals, he says:]
In the name of the Fa+ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
[Then he takes the chalice, sanctifying it and saying:]
IN the name of the Fa+ther, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Collect: WE offer Thee, O Lord, the chalice of Jesus Christ Thy Son, humbly beseeching Thy mercy, that it may go up before the sight of Thy divine majesty with an odour of sweetness. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
[He places the chalice upon the Altar and takes the filiola without a sanctification, and puts it over the chalice, saying:]
Collect: THIS oblation, we beseech Thee, O Lord, graciously accept: and pardon the sins of all them that make offering of them, and of them for whom it is offered unto Thee. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
[He bows himself, joining his hands, and says this prayer:]
IN the spirit of humility, and with a contrite heart, may we be accepted of Thee, O Lord: and may our sacrifice be in such wise that it may be accepted by Thee this day, and be pleasing unto Thee, O Lord God. Come, Holy Spirit the Sanctifier: sanctify this sacrifice prepared unto Thee at my hands.
[Incense is placed in the thurible, the minister saying:]
GRANT, O Lord, to bless.
Celebrant: May it be blessed by Him in Whose honour it shall be burnt. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
[Then he censes the sacrifice, saying:]
THROUGH this incense be pleased, O Lord, with me and Thy people, sparing our sins: and let Thy wrath and fury find rest: mercifully grant that to Thee we may be a good odour unto life eternal. Amen.
SARUM
Receive, O Holy Trinity, this oblation, which I, an unworthy sinner, offer in honour of thee, of the blessed Virgin and all the saints, for my sins and offences, and for the salvation of the living, and the rest of all the faithful dead. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Let this new sacrifice be acceptable to the omnipotent God.
[After numerous crossings and incensings, the service proceeds.]
These things finished, let the Celebrant go to the right side of the altar, and wash his hands, saying:
Cleanse me, O Lord, from all iniquity of my body and soul, that clean I may be able to fulfil the holy work of the Lord.
Then let him return, and standing before the altar with inclined head and body, with joined hands, let him say:
Let us be accepted, O Lord, in the spirit of humility, and in a contrite mind, and so let our sacrifice be in thy sight that it may be received by thee this day, and may please thee, O Lord, my God.
Mozarabic:
[The Celebrant bows at the midst of the Altar, with joined hands, and says in a ringing voice:]
ASSIST me, brethren, in your prayers, and make prayer for my sake unto God.
Choir: THE Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit assist thee.

[And the Celebrant turns to the people, and they make their offerings if they wish. As the Celebrant receives the offerings, the Choir sings the:]
SACRIFICIUM (Mozarabic) or OFFERTORY (Sarum)

[To each person offering bread or wine the Celebrant says:]
MAYST thou receive a hundredfold: and possess life eternal in the kingdom of God. Amen.
[And the offerant shall kiss the stole, and withdraw.]

[Then the Celebrant blesses the antidoron, saying:]
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R. Who hath made heaven and the earth.
V. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
R. From henceforth, now, and for evermore.
Collect: BLE+SS, O Lord, this creature of bread, as Thou didst bless the five loaves in the wilderness: that all who partake thereof may receive health both of body and of soul. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the bles+sing of God the Father almighty, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, descend upon this bread: and upon all that eat thereof.
[Here he has water poured upon his hands, and says:]
I WILL wash my hands in innocency, O Lord, and encompass Thine Altar: that I may hear the voice of Thy praise, and tell of all Thy wondrous works. Destroy not my soul with the ungodly, O God, nor my life with men of blood.
[He signs the oblation with three fingers as he says silently:]
IN the name of the Father, + and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Thou reignest, God, unto the ages of ages.
R. Amen.

[The Celebrant bows before the Altar and says silently this prayer:]
I SHALL approach unto Thee in the humility of my spirit:
I shall speak to Thee, for Thou hast given me great hope in Thy power. Thou, then, O Son of David, Who art come unto us in the flesh, the Mystery being laid open by the key of Thy Cross: open the secrets of my heart, sending one of the Seraphim, who with that flaming coal which is taken from Thine altar will cleanse my lips of pollution, clear my clouded mind, minister the occasion to that which should be taught: that the tongue which serves to the use of my neighbours out of charity may make no sound in error: but resound with the praises of Truth without end. Through Thee, my God: Who livest and reignest to ages of ages. Amen.

V. The Lord be always with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

Here is Said the Oratio Admonitionis (Mozarabic).
R. Amen.

PAX (IF this be Sarum, let this be read later)

[The Celebrant says the AD PACEM, varying with the Mass, but ending:]
R. Amen.
[Then, in the midst of the Altar, he says:]
Celebrant: FOR Thou art our true Peace, and charity unbroken: Thou livest with Thee: and reignest with the Holy Spirit, one God: unto ages of ages. R. Amen.
[The Celebrant lifts up his hands, blessing the people:]
THE grace of God the Father almighty, the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be always with us all.
Choir: AND with men of good will.
Celebrant: WHEREFORE make peace with them that stand near you.
[The Choir sings the Responsory:]
MY peace I give you: My peace I commit to you: not as the world giveth peace do I give unto you.
V. A new commandment I give you: that ye love one another.
MY peace I give...
V. Glory and honour to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: unto ages of ages. Amen.
MY peace I give...
[While the Choir says "My peace" the Celebrant takes the bread from the paten, and says:]
RECEIVE the kiss of peace and love: that you may be fit for the most holy Mysteries of God.
[And straightway he gives the pax to the server, and the server to the people.
As the Pax is passed: Peace be unto thee and unto the Church of God.
R/.
And with thy spirit.

[After this the Celebrant bows himself, joins his hands, and sings:]
I WILL go in unto the altar of God.
Choir: UNTO God Who giveth gladness to my youth.
[The Celebrant places his hands upon the chalice and says:]
OPEN your ears to the Lord.
Choir: WE have them unto the Lord.

But if this is Sarum, it is said:

V. The Lord be always with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

Inlatio, Mozarabic - Preface, Sarum

Celebrant: LIFT up your hearts.
Choir: LET us lift them unto the Lord.
[The Celebrant, with joined hands, bows to the midst of the Altar, and says:]
TO our God and Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who is in the heavens: let us render worthy praises, and worthy thanks.
[As the Celebrant says "Let us render" above, he lifts his hands on high. And the Choir answers:]
IT is meet and just so to do.
Celebrant: IT is meet and just, ... saying thus: [Then the Celebrant sings the INLATION or Preface, varying with the Mass:]
Choir: HOLY, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Sabaoth: Heaven and earth are full of the glory of Thy majesty. Hosanna in the Highest. [Hosanna to the Son of David.] Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord. Osanna in the highest. [Agyos, Agyos, Agyos Kyrie o Theos - Mozarabic]

[Afterwards the Celebrant sings the POST SANCTUS, varying with the Mass, but ending:]
R. Amen.

V. The Lord be always with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Celebrant: THE Faith which we believe with the heart let us then say with the mouth.

[The Choir says the Symbol antiphonally:]
Choir: WE believe in one God, the Father almighty. Maker of heaven and earth. The Creator of all things visible and invisible. And in one our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. And born of the Father before all ages. God of God. Light of light. True God of true God. Born, not made. Consubstantial with the Father. By Whom all things were made which are in heaven and which are on earth. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven. And became incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. He suffered under Pontius Pilate. Was buried; the third day he arose. He ascended into heaven: sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty. Whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. Of Whose kingdom there shall be no end. And in the Holy Spirit the Lord and Giver of life, both proceeding from the Father. With the Father and the Son to be worshipped and conglorified. Who spake by the Prophets: and one Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the remission of sins. I wait for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the Age to come. Amen.

Celebrant: LET us pray.

Sarum: AGNUS DEI and PAX
If this be Mozarabic, continue past.

Here let him make three crosses within the chalice with the third part of the host, saying:
The peace of the +Lord be always with you.
Let the choir respond, and with thy spirit.
At the saying of the Agnus, let the deacon and subdeacon approach to the priest both on the right, the deacon. the nearer, the subdeacon more remote, and let them say privately:
O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Before the peace is given, let the Celebrant say: O Lord, holy Father, Almighty and eternal, grant to me that I may so worthily receive this holy body and blood of thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ, that I may merit to receive through this the remission of all my sins, and to be filled with thy Holy Spirit, and to have thy peace. Because thou art God alone, and there is none other beside thee, whose glorious kingdom shall remain for ever. Amen.
Here let the Celebrant kiss the corporals on the right side, and the top of the chalice, and afterwards the deacon saying:
Peace be to thee and to the Church of God.
Answer: And with thy spirit.
Let the deacon, on the right hand of the priest, receive the pax from him, and extend it to the subdeacon: Then, at the step of the choir, let the deacon himself bear the pax to the rectors of the choir: and let them convey the pax to the choir, each one to his own part, beginning from the seniors.

After the giving of the pax, let the Celebrant say the following prayers privately, before he communicates himself: holding the host in both hands:

O God the Father, the Fountain and Origin of all goodness, thou, who, moved by compassion for us, didst will thine only begotten Son to descend to the low places of the world, and to take our flesh, whom I unworthy hold here in my hands: (Here let the Celebrant bow to the host, saying:) I adore thee, I glorify thee, I praise thee, with the complete intention of the heart: and pray that thou mayest not forsake thy servants, but pardon our sins: that with pure heart and chaste body we may deserve to serve thee: who art alone the living God, and the true. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who, according to the will of the Father, the Holy Ghost cooperating, through thy death, hast given life to the world, deliver me, I beseech thee, by this most holy body and this thy blood from all my iniquities, and from all evils: and make me so always to obey all thy commandments, and never permit me to be separated from thee for ever. Who livest and reignest God, with God the Father, and the same holy Spirit: through all eternity. Amen.
Let not the sacrament of thy body and blood, 0 Lord Jesus, which, although unworthy, I presume to receive, be to me for judgment and condemnation, but may it avail, through thy mercy, for the salvation of my body and soul. Amen.
To the body let him say, with humility, before he receives it: Hail eternally, O most holy flesh of Christ: to me before all things, and above all things, the greatest sweetness.
The body of our Lord Jesus Christ be to the a sinner, the way and the life. in the name of the Father, and of’ the Son, anti of the Holy Ghost.

Here let him receive the body, first having made the sign of the cross with the body itself before his mouth. Then let him say to the blood, with great devotion:
Hail for eternity, celestial beverage, to me before all things, and above all things, the greatest sweetness. The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ be to me, a sinner, a never-failing remedy to eternal life. Amen. In the name of the Father, &c.
Here let him receive the blood: which being taken, let him bow and say with devotion the following prayer:
I render thanks to thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty eternal God: who hast refreshed me from the most sacred body and blood of thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ: And I beseech that this sacrament of our salvation, which, unworthy sinner as I am, I have received, may not come to me to judgment nor to condemnation for my deserts, but to the perfecting of body and soul to eternal life. Amen.
[And afterwards the Celebrant says this prayer within himself in a subdued voice:]
HOLY things for the holy, and may the mingling of the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ be to us that receive and drink It for forgiveness: and be granted unto the faithful departed for their repose.
[He lowers the particle into the chalice and veils the chalice: and the D. says in a loud voice:]
BOW down yourselves for a blessing.
Celebrant: The Lord be always with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

BENEDICTION WITH THE MYSTERIES

[The Celebrant goes to the right horn of the Altar and says:]
MAY the Body of our Lord Jesus Christ which we have taken, and His holy Blood which we have drunk, cling to our bowels, O eternal, almighty God: that it may not come unto our judgment, nor our condemnation, but be profitable to us for salvation, and for the healing of our souls unto life eternal. Amen.

Veni, Creator Spiritus.

COME, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

Psalm 122
To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven. Behold as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for we are greatly filled with contempt. For our soul is greatly filled: we are a reproach to the rich, and contempt to the proud.
Glory Be.... As it was.....
Psalm 123
If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say: If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us, Perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us, Perhaps the waters had swallowed us up. Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable. Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us to be a prey to their teeth. Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the fowlers. The snare is broken, and we are delivered. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Glory Be.... As it was.....

Psalm 124
They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Sion: he shall not be moved for ever that dwelleth In Jerusalem. Mountains are round about it: so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth now and for ever. For the Lord will not leave the rod of sinners upon the lot of the just: that the just may not stretch forth their hands to iniquity. Do good, O Lord, to those that are good, and to the upright of heart. But such as turn aside into bonds, the Lord shall lead out with the workers of iniquity: peace upon Israel.
Glory Be.... As it was.....
